The business

Værdalsbruket AS manages 900,000 acres of forest and mountains in Verdal municipality. The property makes up 58% of the municipality's area, and the boundaries have remained virtually unchanged for the past 200 years. The company is today owned by Fabritiusgruppen AS.

Forestry

Forestry with associated sawmill operations is still the main business, as it has been since the 17th century. Of the productive forest area, 11% is protected. Blåfjella/Skjækerfjella National Park includes approx. 30% of the property's total area. Forestry is the basic business of Værdalsbruket, as it has been since the property collection began in the 16th century. Værdalsbruket runs a long-term and socially conscious management of the forest resources with the objective of optimal production of both timber and game. The forestry activity is certified through Norwegian Forestry Certification according to the requirements of ISO 14001 with "Living Forest" as the environmental standard.

Forestry

The property's productive forest area is approx. 180,000 acres, mainly on low and medium credit. Forest management is carried out on approx. 160,000 acres. Annual felling is in the order of 5-10,000 m3. For comparison, annual growth is 50,000 m3. One has chosen to settle on a quantity lower than the calculated balance quantity. After 1945, a total of NOK 24 million was invested in forestry (planting and young forest care) on the property. In the same period, almost 14 million forest plants have been planted. From employing 270 men in 1945, today there are 4 forest workers employed.

Sawmill

In 1999, our sawmill Trones Bruk was merged into InnTre AS, where we own 34% of the shares. The company is Norway's third largest sawmill company, and produces approx. 100,000 m3 of lumber annually distributed over three facilities. More information at www.inntre.no

We offer roadside felling of firewood, and sale of stumps delivered to the road (strange sale). Indicative price list for the various assortments can be found here. In string sales, it is mostly birch and energy fir that are sold, as well as some alder. Pine may occur. For roadside felling, we have prepared a target template of approx. 3 metres, which indicates an area from the shoulder of the road that must be cleared of vegetation. What is wood (all types of wood) is taken care of, while smaller dimensions are shared. Conifers over 25 cm must be left.

Environment

Environmental registrations have been carried out on the property. As a result of these, 120 key biotopes (biologically important areas) have been laid out and are administratively protected. Nature type, continuity and red list species are registered, and the areas given different status depending on these registrations. Blåfjella- Skjækerfjella National Park comprises 1/3 of the property (311 km2). This area also includes significant areas of forest. Productive forest is also part of the Barsjøen and Fjellmannmyra nature reserves. In total, 11% of productive forest area is protected. Calculated by standing volume, the protection covers 16%.

Hunting and Fishing

Sale of hunting and fishing products with varying degrees of adaptation is a natural part of real estate operations. The most suitable products are sold in combination with a stay at Holmen Gård.

Rental cabins and cabin areas

We have 12 rental cabins at various locations on the property. These are excellent starting points for hunting, fishing and outdoor activities. We have 220 fixed points spread over 7 different cabin fields. In addition, there will be 130 sold plots in the same cottage fields.

Limestone

In Tromsdalen lies one of Europe's largest and cleanest deposits of limestone (2-3 billion tonnes). Norcem has a license for the operation and leases it to Verdalskalk. Annual withdrawal is approx. 1 million tonnes. An increase in withdrawal is expected in the coming years. More information at www.verdalskalk.no
